McCarey Announces Formal Campaign Launch for Ohio State Representative in District 95

Micah McCarey, a life-long resident of Ohio, Eagle Scout, Rotarian, and proud Athens City Council Member, is excited to announce the formal launch of his campaign for Ohio State Representative in District 95. The campaign kicks off with two launch parties at popular Athens restaurants, The Pigskin on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. (theme: Back to School), and Casa Nueva on Monday, September 2, 2024, from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. (theme: Sustainable Future). At these events, supporters can meet McCarey, learn more about his goals for the Ohio House of Representatives, and find out how they can contribute to the campaign. Free food, fun, and voter registration information will be provided at both events. Financial donations are greatly appreciated but not required. These launch parties mark the official start of a campaign dedicated to bringing effective, compassionate leadership to Southeast Ohio.

The first event, the McCarey for Progress Party at The Pigskin, will feature a fun “Back to School” theme. As the new school year begins, guests can dress in their favorite school-themed apparel or bring out their best “nerd” costumes with glasses and suspenders. The event will include individual and group picture day photos, a “pop quiz” on campaign trivia, and school-themed decorations, tying in with McCarey’s commitment to celebrating educators and supporting schools. K-12 and higher ed. educators are strongly encouraged to attend and be recognized.

The second event, the McCarey for Progress Sustainability Celebration at Casa Nueva, will feature a “Sustainable Future” theme, celebrating the five principles of sustainability—Peace, Prosperity, Partnerships, People, and Planet—that serve as the core values of the campaign. The venue will feature eco-friendly decorations, vegetarian or vegan menu options, and opportunities to learn about how these principles guide McCarey’s vision for a brighter future for all Ohioans. Fellow Eagle Scouts, environmentalists, and Rotarians are strongly encouraged to attend and be recognized.

McCarey, 39, is a life-long resident of Ohio and a three-time graduate of Ohio University. He currently serves as the director of Ohio University’s Pride Center. He is the Chair of the City Council’s City and Safety Services Committee and serves as the City Council liaison to both the Commission on Disabilities and the Athens Community Relations Commission. Additionally, he co-leads the Racial Equity Coalition of Athens County. Micah is also a proud graduate of the Athens County Foundation’s Leadership Athens County program and the Leading in Appalachia program offered through Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs. With deep roots in the community, Micah is committed to improving schools, expanding internet access, and supporting small businesses across Southeast Ohio.

“I’m thrilled to officially launch my campaign and to have the opportunity to connect with so many passionate and dedicated members of our communities,” Micah shared. “I’m dedicated to bringing a strong, compassionate voice to the Ohio State House, and I’m eager to engage and serve all constituents in District 95. Together, we can build a brighter future for all Ohioans.”

The campaign especially encourages engagement from young voters and offers numerous volunteer and internship opportunities. Example volunteer opportunities include serving as outreach assistants, door-to-door or phone canvassers, event hosts, fundraising team members, PR team members, and assisting with the production of a special campaign documentary that will capture the spirit and momentum of this cross-county campaign against the backdrop of a historic presidential election.
